Starting next week, Android users will no longer need a Google+ social network account to play on their mobile device.
Instead of registering on Google+, which previously displayed the player’s real profile in Play Games, the user will have to create his avatar (Gamer ID) as part of the service. What it will be is up to the player to decide.
That is, you can safely call yourself Unic0rnd00d and play games under this nickname without being tied to a real Google account. However, the latter can be easily implemented if the user has such a desire.
The introduction of Gamer ID will also simplify the process of logging into the accounts of the games themselves. If you create a Gamer ID, the device will automatically start uploading information about you to a new game, unless, of course, it is integrated with Google Play Games solutions.
VentureBeat writes that this will “destroy the barrier between players who want to start playing online with friends, but may not want to get an account on another social network.”
But according to Benjamin Frenkel, product manager of Play Games, this change will allow players to be who they want to be. According to him, user reviews led developers to the idea that many players do not want the mail to indicate their presence online when playing. “Users prefer to use one Google account for all their tasks, but do not consider it appropriate for games,” Benjamin is quoted on TheNextWeb.
