Russian players can no longer buy games on Steam. The platform has blocked payment acceptance for Russian users. The exception is PayPal.

There is no official information about this in the Steam blog. However, this is reported by Steam users, as well as developers and journalists who have tried to make a payment.

When switching from the shopping cart to the payment selection screen, Steam informs you that the purchase is no longer possible.

Whichever payment option the user chooses, the text remains the same. The only exception is PayPal. Here it is proposed to continue the purchase, and it is also reported that in regions other than Russia it is still possible to buy games.

The decision to refuse to accept payments from Russia may be due to the exclusion of a number of Russian banks from the SWIFT system. However, only seven banks were excluded from the system. Now you can’t even enter new details for verification.

Recall that a few days ago, the refusal to accept money for technical reasons for cardholders of sanctioned banks looked completely different.

As for PayPal, a few days ago there was information that Russian users of the service were faced with the inability to link their bank cards to it. Plus, he froze the withdrawal of funds to Russian cards. Simply put, as a service, it works unstable in Russia.

Perhaps Valve is thus demonstrating its position towards (…) [the word is prohibited by the Russian authorities] Russia in Ukraine.
