Nintendo intends to improve the functionality of the Nintendo eShop online gaming store to make it easier for gamers to search for new games in it. This was announced by the head of the department for working with partners of Nintendo America Damon Baker (Damon Baker) at the GDC 2018 conference.
What is the problem of indie game developers for Switch?
Due to the abundance of digital releases for Nintendo Switch, it has become difficult for independent developers to ensure that players notice their products on the official trading platform for Switch games.
How does Nintendo plan to increase the detectability of games in the eShop?
Baker said that the company will work with feedback from developers and gamers over the next year. In addition to the eShop capabilities, Nintendo intends to use other channels to promote indie games on Switch – social media platforms and exhibitions, as well as create a separate web resource.
What is the percentage of Nintendo’s digital releases?
According to Damon Baker, 50% − 60% of all releases are released on Nintendo platforms in “digit”. This is comparable to the performance of such major publishers as EA, Activision and Ubisoft.
Baker also noted that in 2017, digital sales of Nintendo games in North America overtook retail for the first time in the company’s history.
