In 2017, 1.5 million new apps appeared in the Google app store — 14% more than a year earlier. At the same time, for the first time in history, the App Store noted a decrease in new releases. During the year, 755 thousand applications were released in the store, which is 29% lower than the result of 2016.
This is reported by the analytical platform for the mobile market Appfigures.
By the end of 2017, the Google Play library grew by 30% and reached 3.6 million applications. The App Store catalog has decreased by 5% and amounts to 2.1 million programs.

The researchers clarify that the decrease in new releases in the App Store is due to the introduction of a stricter Apple publishing policy and the removal of applications that do not work on the 64-bit architecture of the new chips in the company’s devices.
Appfigures notes that the majority (33.5%) of all new releases in the App Store and Google Play were developed in the USA. Chinese authors are in second place — they have created 15.9% of new mobile applications.
