The imminent end of the Flash era means the end for some Facebook gaming services, too. The social network announced that it will support Gameroom for only a year. Even earlier, the ability to launch new web games on Facebook will disappear.

Both the web version of Facebook and Gameroom have a large number of Flash games. All of them will be deleted simultaneously with disabling Flash. Recall that Adobe will support its multimedia platform until the end of 2020.

As reported on Facebook:

  • From January 1, 2021, developers will no longer be able to launch any web games on social networks. Existing games (we are talking about HTML5 projects) will continue to work, they can be updated.
  • Gameroom will be closed on June 30, 2021. All games will be deleted.

For those who do not want to lose the audience of their games on these platforms, there are the following options:

  • users of an outdated Flash game can be redirected to another game of the developer’s choice or to the Facebook profile of the old game. The choice must be made before August 31, 2020;
  • since native games will also be disabled, their players can be transferred in the same way. Authors of native games must indicate where to redirect the audience by February 28, 2021;
  • HTML5 game players from Gameroom will be automatically redirected to Facebook game pages. You can cancel this function by unchecking “HTML5” in the game settings.

All these manipulations are available at this link.

The social network team also advises developers to inform players in advance about upcoming changes. So gamers will be able to use all their in-app purchases in advance.

Facebook Gameroom is a distribution platform available for free download on Windows systems. All Facebook player titles are automatically added to the client.
