The “For the whole family” category will disappear from Google Play. It will be replaced with a new section “For children”. This section will include games and applications approved by teachers.
Google will launch a new program in the store called “Approved by teachers”. A special commission, which will include qualified teachers, will evaluate applications for children for quality, age compliance, IAP content and advertising.
Approved games and applications will be labeled “Approved by teachers”, and valuable explanations to the content will appear in its description. For example: “suitable for children of a certain age”, “entertains”, “develops creative thinking”.
Such products will fall into the new category “Children”. In the coming days, it will replace the “For the whole Family” category in the American store, and in the coming months — around the world.
In this case, the “For the whole family” category and the corresponding icon will disappear from the store completely. But the Google Play Family Library will still be available.
Note that Google was going to introduce a “children’s category” later. But since right now many children are quarantined for coronavirus, the company has accelerated the development of a new section.
In recent years, Google has seriously taken up the moderation of content in children’s apps. The company is gradually tightening the requirements for such software. In addition, since 2019, Google Play classifies products into categories “for children”, “for children and adults”, “for adults”.
