Valve announced changes to the rules regarding game descriptions on Steam. It plans to introduce three new prohibitions.

Developers will be prohibited from:

  • including links to external websites, including social media, in game descriptions on Steam. Links can only be added in designated fields;
  • advertising other games on Steam using images, links, and widgets;
  • imitating the Steam interface and buttons using images and animations added to the game page.

The prohibitions apply to the "About This Product," "Product Summary," "Awards," and all sections for special announcements.

The new rules will take effect in September. At that time, Valve will automatically hide all links from the text sections in game descriptions.
