The Steam team didn't stop at merely updating the wishlist functionality. Valve also enhanced the gifting system on the platform.
Key Innovations
- Guest users who don't have a Steam account are now allowed to purchase games as gifts—they were previously only able to gift cards and devices.
- Steam now permits direct gifting of games to friends who are in regions with higher prices. Steam will calculate the final purchase amount during the gift transaction, converting it into the required currency.
- It's no longer necessary to know a gamer's account name for sending gifts—you can now send them via email. However, gifts need to be accepted within 30 days, or the funds will be refunded to the purchaser. Important: when choosing this method, the sender and recipient must reside in the same country.
- Gifts can be sent directly from the wishlist if the user shares a link to it.
