The platform now tracks traffic more accurately. This will enable developers to receive more reliable data on who is visiting the pages of their games.
Valve has warned that the innovation may affect the total number of verified visits for most games—as visits excluding bots will decrease.
The company explained the update by the increase (in both volume and variety of approaches) of web traffic generated by bots.
The update does not affect player privacy: Steam IDs and other personal data remain undisclosed when links are followed.
The changes took effect on November 18.
