Atari has revealed the starting price and part of the technical data of its new product, the Ataribox console. It will run on a Linux system. The starting price is from $250 to $300.

Ataribox creator and Atari general manager Feargal Mac announced that the console will be shipped with a large catalog of classic Atari games.

In addition, it will be possible to play modern undemanding indie titles such as Minecraft and Terraria on Ataribox.

According to Mac, Ataribox can not only run PC games, but also play music, browse the web and stream videos.

The creators of the console emphasize the flexibility of its platform — due to the open Linux system, Ataribox users themselves will be able to choose content to play without being tied to closed ecosystems.

This fall, Atari will launch a crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo platform, and the official release of the console is scheduled for spring 2018.
