President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime (Reggie Fils-Aime) announced that the company intends to conduct an experiment with mobile devices.
Porting hits like Mario, Zelda or Metroid to mobile platforms would probably bring Nintendo a good profit. This is evidenced by the success of Sega, Square Enix and EA in the mobile market.
However, Nintendo does not seek to conquer mobile horizons. So far, the company plans to use mobile devices only as a platform to promote its consoles and titles for them.
Nintendo employees want to keep their brand relevant in the “brave new mobile world.” They intend to attract more users to their own consoles by releasing small games on mobile platforms.
“We believe that playing and enjoying our games is better on our devices,” Fils-Aim said.
Do not wait for the appearance of full-fledged titles of the company on mobile devices in the near future. However, perhaps the new experience will change Nintendo’s attitude to the mobile world.
