FDG has released an unusual project for itself on the App Store – a paid action adventure game Oceanhorn.
The project was developed by the Finnish Cornifox & Bros. with an eye on The Legend of Zelda. It would be more accurate to say this: the Finns have been making the “Zelda” of their dreams for four years. The first prototype was made back in 2010. FDG took up the game at the end of 2012. It took almost another year to bring the game to release together.
As a result, it turned out to be a very beautiful game about a young adventurer who travels around the islands trying to find his father. The gameplay is close to The Legend of Zelda: we run around the world, kill monsters, solve easy puzzles. The developers claim a minimum of 10 hours of passage.
Yes, and the game costs 299 rubles and there is no IAP in it.
In other words, users are offered a conditionally high-quality console product on mobile platforms. How justified this decision is from a business point of view, we will find out not earlier than in a month, when the Apple feature stops and it will be possible to see the “tail of sales” of the project.
The significance of the project, in our opinion, lies in the fact that no one has yet released an AAA-level game for portable consoles exclusively on the App Store and distributed according to the traditional paid model.
We do not believe in the efficiency of such an approach in the mobile market, but we will be glad to make a mistake, because Oceanhorn is a good game.
