The Tokyo District Court held the third hearing in the case of Yuji Naka, accused of insider stock trading. On it, the prosecutor’s office requested that the former head of Sonic Team be sentenced to 2.5 years in prison and a fine of 172.5 million ($ 1.2 million).
Naki’s defense does not agree with such measures. She asks to give the game designer a suspended sentence and reduce the size of the fine.
Naku was accused of stock fraud at the end of last year. In November, he was suspected of insider trading in shares of Dragon Quest Tact developers, and in December — shares of Final Fantasy VII co-developers: The First Soldier. In March 2023, Naka pleaded guilty.
The court is expected to pass sentence on July 7.
