By mid-2024, Microsoft sold 28.3 million Xbox Series units, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing data from the analytics company Aldora. This is significantly fewer than the sales of the PlayStation 5.

As a reminder, in its latest financial report, Sony stated that as of June 30, PlayStation 5 sales amounted to 61.7 million units. Thus, demand for the PlayStation 5 has been 2.18 times higher than for the Xbox Series.

As The Wall Street Journal indicated, compared to the previous generation, the sales gap between Xbox and PlayStation consoles has grown slightly. Back then, the Xbox One lagged behind the PlayStation 4 by a factor of 2.02 times, with sales of 57.9 million units compared to 117 million units for the PlayStation 4.

According to analysts' estimates, Microsoft's best-selling console remains the Xbox 360, which sold 84.9 million units worldwide. At one time, it nearly surpassed the PlayStation 3 in sales, thanks in part to its relatively lower price — the Xbox 360 was $200 cheaper than the PlayStation 3.
