One less mystery. Startup Magic Leap demonstrated the design of augmented reality glasses Magic Leap One. The project was developed for 6 years in secrecy and raised $1.9 billion in investments.
The company has introduced the Creators Edition, primarily intended for content creators for the new platform.
Little is known about the Magic Leap glasses themselves. Their work is based on the technology of image projection on the retina of the eye.
The prototype Magic Leap One looks more compact than most VR headsets, but it is larger than ordinary glasses and Google Glass device.
The computing center of the Magic Leap AR headset is a separate device (looks like a small disk). According to Magic Leap, the performance of the headset processor is comparable to a gaming laptop.
A wireless controller is also included.
Sales of the device will begin in 2018. At the beginning of the year, Magic Leap also promised to open access to the SDK, resources and development lessons for the Magic Leap One platform.
There is no official data on the cost of Magic Leap One yet. In September of this year, the business publication Bloomberg reported that the initial price of the device will be from $ 1.5 to $ 2 thousand.
Recall that Magic Leap started working on the headset in 2011. Among the investors in the project were such giants of the technology industry as Google, AliBaba and Qualcomm. The Temasek state fund, owned by the Singapore government, also invested in the startup.
In addition, the company intended to gain an additional $1 billion by selling its shares.
