Google Corporation has decided to support African indie studios wishing to release games on Google Play. To this end, it has launched a special fund — Indie Games Fund Africa.

As announced by Google, its fund will distribute one million dollars among 10 teams. Each team can apply for funding ranging from $50,000 to $200,000 to scale their business and enter the global market. In addition to financial support, studios will be offered consultations and technical assistance if needed.

Google specified that the Indie Games Fund Africa will collaborate only with relatively small studios with no more than 50 employees. Moreover, developers must have a ready mobile, console, or PC game with significant growth potential — if it hasn't been released on Google Play yet, part of the funding must be allocated to creating a version for the store.

It is worth noting that this is not Google's first such initiative. In 2022, the corporation established a similar fund for indie developers from Latin American countries, which annually allocates $2 million to local teams.
