Journalist Stephen Totilo from Axios shared new details about the cancelled sequel Immortals Fenyx Rising from Ubisoft. To do this, he talked with people familiar with the development of the project.
According to Totilo’s sources, the sequel was dedicated to the myths of Polynesia and was created with the help of Polynesian consultants.
The game combined the features of Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and was much larger than the original. It was supposed that in it gamers would have to explore an archipelago with islands resembling New Zealand, Tahiti, Easter Island and Hawaii. The heroes of the story would carry out the orders of the gods, in return receiving the powers of the elements and other abilities. For example, they could learn to change their shape.
The sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising was supposed to be very different from the rest of Ubisoft’s games. It would not have a map with markers and points of interest, and it would be necessary to navigate the world by the stars and the wind or by watching animals.
The graphics in the game were planned to be made more realistic than in the first part. The developers also abandoned the narrator and the focus on puzzles. Moreover, Ubisoft thought about making the second Immortals Fenyx Rising not a sequel, but an independent game.
Despite the potential of the game, Ubisoft decided to close it and redirect the released resources to the development of Assassin’s Creed Codename Red about Japan.
