In January-March 2024, the PlayStation 5 consoles sold significantly better than the Xbox Series, according to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad.

Ahmad pointed out that, according to Sony's financial report, in the first three months of 2024, the company sold 4.5 million PlayStation 5 consoles. Microsoft did not disclose data on unit sales of its consoles, but, according to Niko Partners, they were almost five times lower than Sony's.

It is noteworthy that both companies reported a drop in quarterly revenue from sales of gaming hardware. At Sony, they decreased by 29.3% to 262.7 billion yen ($1.7 billion), at Microsoft — by 31%.

Ahmad added that sales of the PlayStation 5 have been about twice as high as sales of the Xbox Series over the entire period of its existence. The difference in sales has started to grow strongly in the last year.

According to official data, by the end of March, the PlayStation 5 had sold 59.2 million copies. Current sales of the Xbox Series are unknown, but in June 2023, Microsoft talked about 21 million consoles sold.
