Gaming sales in the first quarter of 2017 brought Ubisoft $234 million instead of $196.8 million, which is about 19% higher than the projected financial result and 45% more than in the same period last year.
The firm received $188 million from digital purchases, which, along with downloadable copies of games, includes downloadable content and in-app transactions. This is 55% higher than in the first quarter of 2016.
Compared to the first quarter of last year, the share of digital revenues in Ubisoft’s total revenue increased by 5% to 80.4%.
In May of this year, two Ubisoft titles took 1st and 2nd place in the ranking of global video game sales: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands and For Honor.
In the next quarter, sales are expected to reach $220 million.
It is worth noting that in the last few months the company has not released major game projects. Ubisoft’s financial success is secured by its existing gaming portfolio.
