Twitch streaming service has agreed with Overwatch League to broadcast league games in the next 2 years. As the Sport Business Journal reports, citing internal sources, the transaction amount was at least $90 million.
Under the terms of the agreement, Twitch has received the right to exclusively show 6 of the 12 weekly matches of the league’s game season. The remaining games will also be broadcast on the Major League Gaming platform, owned by Overwatch publisher Activision Blizzard. MGL will also show all Overwatch League preseason games.
SBJ adds that in addition to broadcasts, the contract amount may include other aspects of cooperation, but does not specify what exactly it may be about.
Twitch will broadcast Overwatch League games in English, French and Chinese all over the world, except in China.
The opening ceremony and the first Overwatch League games will be held on the evening of January 10 in Los Angeles.
