The main platform for money for PUBG remains the desktop. This conclusion can be drawn from acquaintance with the financial results of PUBG Corp for the past year.

I shared them on my Twitter Daniel Ahmad, analyst at Niko Partners, with reference to the publication Sports.Naver.com , which published and decoded the reports.

Finance

PUBG Corp’s financial performance for 2018:

  • revenue — $920 million;
  • profit — $310 million.

At the same time, 85% of the amount was accounted for by sales of the PC version of PUBG:

  • desktop — $790 million (annual growth — 314%);
  • consoles — $65 million;
  • mobile — $60 million (as we were prompted in the comments, here we are talking about deductions from Tencent, which is responsible for PUBG Mobile);
  • other sources of revenue — the remaining $5 million.

The main region in terms of financial indicators for the game is Asia. It accounted for 53% (excluding Korea) of all sales last year.

  • Asia (excluding Korea) — $486.8 million;
  • North America — $142 million;
  • South Korea — $100.9 million;
  • Europe — $73.3 million.

What’s wrong with PUBG on mobile and on consoles?

PUBG’s $60 million in mobile is most likely the amount that Tencent paid for using the PUBG brand in its mobile games. According to DataMagic, PUBG Mobile earned $85 million in 2018. A good amount, but much lower than Fortnite’s for the same period ($353 million on iOS only).

The insufficiently high sales of the game are quite easy to explain. On iOS and Android in China, which is one of the main markets for PUBG, the project still does not have permission to implement payments (at least it was in September). Simply put, the project does not get very far. In addition, it was released only in the third quarter of 2018, and did not raise money all year.

The situation with the console version of the game is a little more complicated. Until December 2018, PUBG was available for purchase only on Xbox One. Moreover, the game was in early access on the Microsoft console until September last year. Obviously, both circumstances had a strong impact on sales.
