The Japanese company DeNA closed the 2017 fiscal year (ended March 31 of this year). DeNA’s gaming business generated $895 million, and the segment’s operating profit was $229.2 million.
This is stated in the company’s report.
At the same time, DeNA’s gaming revenues decreased by 3% compared to last year, and operating profit fell by 12%.
The company explained the decrease in profits by an increase in outsourcing and advertising costs.
Apparently, one of the items of expenditure was the mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, launched in October last year.
After the launch, DeNA had to invest additional funds in the project to create new content and promote the title through TV advertising.
In the coming fiscal year, DeNA plans to launch a fourth mobile game together with Nintendo — arcade racing Mario Kart Tour.
In addition, DeNA representatives reported that the company is developing 5 titles outside of the cooperation program with Nintendo.
DeNA added that they intend to achieve the growth of the gaming business by the 2019 financial year.
