The operating profit of Sony’s gaming division in the first quarter of this year amounted to $160 million, which is 59.7% lower than in the same period of 2016. At the same time, sales increased by 5.6% to $3.15 billion.
The decrease in profit is due to the lack of game releases on PlayStation 4, comparable in success and popularity with the action adventure Uncharted 4, which was released in May last year and before its end managed to sell 8.7 million copies sold.
In addition, the planned decline in prices for Sony consoles in September last year affected, and Sony also lost almost $ 22 million due to currency fluctuations.
During this period, revenue from the sale of consoles fell by 17.5%, while revenue from digital sales of games, on the contrary, increased by 34.2%.
