Swedish developer and publisher Paradox Interactive compensates gamers with its games for money lost due to purchases of the company’s titles at inflated prices on Steam.
Initially, the company intended to simply return money to users, but encountered difficulties.
“After studying the options with our sales partners, we came to the conclusion that partial refund is almost impossible. Instead, we are giving everyone who bought any Paradox product from May 17 to July 6 (including Steel Division: Normandy 44 pre—orders made before May 17) a full version of one of our games, or 2 DLC,” the Paradox community manager wrote on the company’s official forum.
Games offered include Stellaris, Hearts of Iron IV, Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universalis IV, Magicka 2 and Tyranny.
If players already own these titles and DLC, Paradox will provide them with “equivalent gifts”.
The offer does not apply to games purchased for US dollars because prices have not changed in this currency.
Recall that Paradox raised the prices of its games and add-ons in May of this year. The company explained the rise in price by the need to maintain the cost of products around the world at the same level.
As a result, titles and DLC companies have risen in price in 26 countries, including Russia. In our country, some Paradox games have become twice as expensive.
After the negative reaction of the gaming community, the head of Paradox Interactive, Frederick Wester, apologized to fans and promised to return prices to the previous level.
Vester promised to donate the funds raised during the price increase to the UN Office for Refugees in double volume.
