Nexon, a major publisher of online games, reported a 21% increase in revenue in the 1st quarter of 2018. The company earned ¥90.5 billion ($825 million), and its net profit increased by 134% compared to the same period last year and reached ¥46.6 billion ($425 million).

Nexon earned most of the money on PC games.

China

Nexon’s gaming business in China grew by 38% in the quarter compared to the same period last year. The company earned ¥60.7 billion ($555 million) in the region.

Revenues increased due to good sales of game items and content updates during the New Year holidays according to the Eastern calendar.

South Korea

Quarterly revenues of the South Korean segment amounted to ¥19.5 billion ($179.2 million), a decrease of 3% compared to last year. The company explained the decline by preparing for the transfer of the FIFA Online 3 multiplayer sports sim to new servers.

At the same time, Nexon reported an increase in mobile revenue in South Korea due to the strong performance of the titles Yulhyulgangho M, Durango: Wild Lands, OVERHIT and AxE.

North America

Nexon reported 96% revenue growth in the North American region for the 1st quarter of 2018. Here the company earned ¥40.74 billion ($37.2 million). The revenue driver was the titles of the Pixelberry mobile studio, which Nexon bought at the end of 2017.
