For the second time in five years, the Russian box office top at the end of the month was headed by a game whose team was founded by immigrants from Russia. “Chronicles of Chaos” from Nexters outperformed all competitors, earning $2.7 million on the local market.
Before that, only once the domestic game topped the top. In March 2018, Gardenscapes became the highest-grossing app in Russia. However, she didn’t last long. Already in April, the first place went to Vikings: War of Clans strategy.
As a rule, the top position on earnings in Russia really departs from strategic games. In 2014-2015, the American Game of War was in the lead, 2016 was “under the star” of the Chinese Clash of Kings, and the first half of 2017 was for the Finnish Clash Royale.
Over the past year, the position of the highest-grossing game in Russia has alternately been behind the Finnish Empires & Puzzles, then the Chinese Game of Sultans. They can also be attributed to the strategic genre, although there was a place for match-3 and collections in the game studio Small Giants Games.
“Chronicles of Chaos” is out of this series. The game is a classic role—playing battler in the spirit of Heroes Charge. The player gathers a squad of rare fighters, pumps them, takes part in PvE and PvP battles.
The total revenue of the game for November, according to DataMagic, was $ 12 million. In October, revenue was less — about $ 10 million. “Chronicles of Chaos” has been rapidly gaining momentum over the past year. Since December last year, the revenue of the game has increased 24 times.
