Today, on April 22, CD Projekt Group released its financial report for 2020. According to the document, its revenue grew by 310% last year, and net profit by 558% compared to 2019. It was also announced how much the group spent on the creation of Cyberpunk 2077.
Finance
- In 2020, CD Projekt earned 2.1 billion zlotys or $531 million (this is 310% more than in 2019);
- the company’s net profit for the last year amounted to 1.1 billion zlotys or $289 million (annual growth — 558%);
- the main increase occurred in the last quarter, when Cyberpunk 2077 was released.
In the table just above, we note that one of the main items of expenditure was marketing (Selling costs). The company spent 490 million zlotys or $129 million on it last year. This is about the same amount as she spent last year on development (Costs of products, goods and materials).
Cyberpunk 2077
The company noted that this is the largest project in the entire 26-year history of CD Projekt.
- more than 5,200 people (plus 2,000 voice actors) took part in the development of the game;
- the internal game development team had 530 employees;
- the total budget of the game is 1.2 billion zlotys or $ 316 million;
- in 2020 , the game sold 13.7 million copies sold;
- 73% of copies of the game were sold digitally (that is, physical retail accounted for less than a quarter of sales);
- 56% of sales were for the PC version of the game, 28% — for PS 4, 17% — for Xbox One;
- North America generated 38% of sales, Europe with a minimal lag is in second place.
The Witcher
A successful year turned out to be for the Witcher series as well.
- 2020 was the second best year in history for The Witcher 3 in terms of the number of copies sold (the game sold out in large quantities only in the year of release);
- sales of the entire series reached 50 million, and sales of the third part reached 30 million;
- In terms of box office, 2020 was the third best year in the history of The Witcher 3.
GOG.com
2020 was also very successful for the CD Projekt store. However, it was not without the help of Cyberpunk 2077, which diverged on the platform better than any other game.
