The subscription model is becoming increasingly important for Microsoft. It will determine the launch of the Xbox Series X, said Phil Spencer (Phil Spencer).

The head of Xbox is also confident that the subscription will be no less important for the entire next-gen consoles market. He is quoted by VGC.

Xbox itself tested this model in the USA, UK and Australia, promoting the Xbox All Access service. It combines the purchase of a console (Xbox One, and in the future, Xbox Series X) in installments and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate* in one monthly subscription. The results were considered very successful.

“We want to unite the entire audience (with this model), we want to offer (players) options and opportunities wherever we can,” Spencer said.

In addition, Spencer sees the subscription model as an opportunity to smooth out the negative effect of the pandemic on the global economy.

“We, as an industry, should think about the consumer having many payment options (for services). Whether it’s a Game Pass with access to hundreds of games for a small monthly fee, or Xbox All Access, which allows you to switch to a next-gen device without large one—time costs,” he noted.

The Xbox All Access program was announced last October. The date of its global launch is unknown.

Note that Microsoft and Xbox have recently been focusing on the benefits of subscriptions. For example, ID@Xbox believes that the Xbox Game Pass attracts new players to the industry. It also helps to sell games better.
