Google Corporation will strengthen the protection of children. She said that in the coming months she will start blocking targeted advertising for minors. The restrictions do not end there. Google will also secure YouTube, its search engine, app store and much more for teenagers.

The corporation announced the upcoming innovations in a blog post. Read more about them below.

  • Prohibition of targeted advertising. Google will no longer allow marketers to target ads to children under the age of 18. The company did not specify when exactly this rule will work, but added that it will affect all its products around the world. Note that two weeks ago, Facebook introduced a similar restriction.
  • More control over digital footprints (digital footprint). In the coming weeks, Google is going to allow children and parents to ask the company to remove their photos from image search results;
  • YouTube privacy. By default, video hosting will block videos uploaded by users under the age of 17 from public access. If desired, teenagers will be able to open access for everyone themselves. YouTube will also send alerts that it’s time for children to take a break or go to bed, and turn off autoplay videos.
  • Safe search in the search engine. Google is going to automatically enable the SafeSearch function in the accounts of minors. Recall that it helps to filter out adult content.
  • Google Assistant protection. The company stated that it has always tried not to let adult content into Google Assistant when a child is working with the service. Now she plans to download new security features. For example, add a SafeSearch filter.
  • Prohibition on tracking location history. According to Google, it has long banned apps from tracking the chronology of children. But this ban was not in effect in all countries.
  • A new section in Google Play. In the near future, a special section should appear in the store, where users will be able to see what data is collected and transmitted by applications. Thanks to this, parents will be able to assess whether the apps are suitable for their children.
