Sundar Pichai, head of Android and Chrome, gave his first interview since taking office. He talked about how he sees the future of Android, commented on the situation around Samsung and dispelled several rumors about the upcoming I/O.
In mid-March, Android creator Andy Rubin, who held the position of head of the Android division, gave way to Sundar Pichai, who at that time was also responsible for the development of Chrome. Many associated this appointment with the unification of the two operating systems from Google. Pichai himself assured that it is not worth waiting for the unification of Android and Chrome in the near future, however, he does not deny such a possibility in the future.
The general tone of the interview is set by the idea that Google’s OS is a public, open platform. So Pichai spoke positively about Samsung, calling the company “an excellent partner.” He also commented on the situation around Amazon’s Kindle Fire, referring to the fact that the license agreement does not prohibit making changes to the source code, however, Google prefers developers to use a standard platform.
As for the upcoming I/O, Sundaru Pichai upset ordinary users, saying that the conference will be mainly focused on developers and you should not wait for presentations of a large number of new products.
