The case of copying Triple Town will be continued. So it was decided in an American court. According to Gamasutra, the judge refused 6waves Lolapps to terminate the lawsuit against them initiated by the SpryFox studio.
Recall, SpryFox claims that 6waves Lolapps violated their copyrights by releasing a clone of the Triple Town game called Yeti Town.
Despite the fact that the judge leading the case stated, literally, the following: “the copyright of SpryFox does not apply to the idea of the game as such. 6waves (or anyone else) is free to create their own game based on this idea.” He also noted that the trial will continue, because “the question is not whether these games are similar or not (the games, of course, are similar), the question is whether this similarity is a copyright infringement on Triple Town, or a copyright infringement on the trademark of the game, or on its corporate identity.”
At the moment, the judge is dealing with this issue, noting that there are significant similarities between the two games (for example, the main characters of the games that prevent the user from earning points in both cases are wild animals – yes, yes, yeti, it turns out to be a wild animal).
We wrote in detail about this case in January.
