According to American analysts from Strategy Analytics and RBC Capital Market, mobile platforms have been on the market for no more than ten years. Based on this theory, the researchers assumed that iOS and Android will cease to exist in five to six years.

The “scientific” basis of the theory is based on the fact that all mobile systems that appeared on the market about ten years ago – BlackBerry, Symbian, Windows Mobile (not to be confused with Windows Phone) and Palm – have either ceased to exist or are close to it by now. So, according to researchers, the iOS and Android platforms that appeared on the market in 2007 and 2008 and, accordingly, are now at the peak of popularity, will cease to exist by 2017.

Analysts even presented a chronological chart of the popularity of mobile systems in the US market, which clearly shows what can be expected of the current leaders of the mobile platform market in the near future.

However, one of the authors of the study, Alex Spektor, when asked about the fate of Apple in five years, said that “not all platforms have the same end.”
