Today, Microsoft has officially announced to the media the date of a press conference at which, presumably, the first smartphones based on Window 8 will be presented. The event is scheduled for September 5.

The company has not officially announced the goals of the press conference. But if we correlate this date with the Nokia World event in Helsinki, which is also scheduled for September 5, then we can assume that on this day the company will present Nokia Lumia based on Windows 8. Both for Microsoft and for its strategic partner, the Finnish company Nokia, the event will be a landmark.

A number of experts regard the press conference as a response to the announcement of the new iPhone, which will take place on September 12. Analyst Gene Munster believes that the launch of the iPhone 5 will be the most significant event in the electronics market in 2012. As for Microsoft, such major vendors as Samsung, Huawei and HTC have already announced plans to release devices based on Windows Phone 8.
