Strategy Analytics has published a report on the analysis of the smartphone market for the third quarter of this year. According to the data obtained, the combined supply of market-leading Apple and Samsung occupy more than half of the global smartphone market.
According to the results of the third quarter of 2012, Samsung retains the undisputed leadership in the smartphone market. Now its market share exceeds a third of global shipments – 35.2%. In the same period last year, it owned 23.4%. During this period, the number of smartphones shipped has doubled exactly, and now Samsung supplies about 56.9 million “smart” devices to the market.
Apple’s percentage share has grown slightly this year: from 14.3% to 16.6%. But against the background of the overall growth of the market, the number of shipped “Apple” smartphones increased by a significant 10 million. According to the results of the third quarter of this year, Apple delivered about 26.9 million iPhones to the market.
Thus, in total, Samsung and Apple delivered more than half of all smartphones to the world market in the third quarter, although a year ago this share was equivalent to one third. Now, as the chief analyst of Strategy Analytics Neil Sha (Neil Shah) notes, when choosing a smartphone, users primarily consider these two brands.
As for the other manufacturers of “smart” devices, Nokia, HTC, LG, Sony, Huawei and ZTE fell into the “Other” category with a 48.2% share. Even through joint efforts, vendors have lost more than 14% of the market this year.
Recall that last week a similar report was published by the analytical company IDC.
