The authors of the latest research2guidance report drew attention to the potential of using cross-platform tools and provided relevant statistics, estimating the market at $2.4 billion.

According to the report, about 800 thousand applications are released annually on the leading platforms (iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone). Of these, 8% are simple multiplatform projects, which is about 65,000 applications. Given that the average cost of each of them is $38,000 (according to another research2guidance report), it is easy to calculate that their total market value is $2.4 billion.

The experience of developers shows that using cross-platform tools can increase profits by 30%. Why don’t developers use these tools more often?

According to the report, one of the reasons is that many are simply not aware of the availability of most of these tools. The increase in their number has complicated the process of informing developers and publishers about the emergence of new solutions.

As a result, only 5 tools can be called well-known among the members of the mobile industry community. Most of the tools fell into the category of “barely known”, according to the report. This applies even to the products of such famous IT solution vendors as IBM (Worklight) or Incross (DaVinci).
