The Finnish mobile giant is going to start selling tablets under its own brand in October this year.

Internal sources of the DigiTimes website report that at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2012 Nokia is going to put its own 10-inch tablet based on Windows 8 on the shelves. According to high-ranking suppliers of components, the device will run on a dual-core processor from Qualcomm.

The direct production of the tablet will be handled by the Taiwanese company Compal Electronics, which, as Nokia’s management expects, will produce about 200 thousand devices by October.

Analysts believe that Nokia’s recent entry into the WOA camp (manufacturers whose products allow running Windows solutions on chips with ARM architecture) will give the company the opportunity to compete on an equal footing with products developed for Android and iOS.

As for Nokia’s entry into the tablet market itself, this may not only contribute to increased competition among non-iPad tablets, but also completely change the market.
