Mochi Media flash gaming service in cooperation with Adobe and FlashGameLicense.com conducted a survey of Flash game developers. As a result, it turned out that many of them have already switched to mobile “rails”, but have not figured out marketing and monetization.
Mochi Media has announced that 86% of flash game developers are engaged in mobile projects. For 63% of respondents, creating web projects is something like pre-testing. It is on flash portals that you can run in mechanics and balance. In addition, it is much easier to make changes to the web versions of games than to update them in stores. 95% of developers said that they will continue to make games for browsers in the future.
If we talk specifically about platforms, then flash developers do not give preference to any one OS. More precisely, the difference is minimal: 81% work under iOS, 78% also work under Android. Only 21% of flash developers make games for consoles. Also, 76% are sure that it is necessary to develop games for the maximum possible number of axes.
The most popular porting tool is Adobe Air. It is preferred by 67.7% of respondents. Another 29.8% themselves rewrite the game for mobile platforms, 16.1% port it using Unity 3D.
The biggest problem for developers today is marketing. There were 53.4% of them. Another 20.8% of developers do not know how to properly monetize their product. As a result, four out of five developers surveyed after the release of the game can only hope for the best.
A total of 1,359 developers took part in the survey.
