Apple has started to feature two new categories of applications directly in the mobile version of the App Store. The growth of downloads should be expected by those whose programs or games are marked by Cupertinos with Editor’s Choice or Free App of the Week medals.
The iTunes Apps Store has undergone a slight restyling. Firstly, the App of the Week category has moved from the right row of the main showcase to the applications section New and Noteworthy, and is now called Free App of the Day. In it, Apple will promote paid titles that have become free at the time of promotion. Secondly, the main place in the showcase is now behind the Editor’s Choice category. And thirdly, both of these categories are now promoted in the mobile version of the App Store.
Many developers have repeatedly noted that it is quite difficult to distinguish their game from the host of numerous applications on the App Store pages. Recently, Trip Hawkins, the founder of Electronic Arts and Digital Chocolate, also made “his penny”, saying that it is very difficult to release a hit on iOS without the publisher’s marketing investments.
And Apple, of course, is trying to solve this problem somehow. She regularly publishes various collections like Retro Games, Big Name Games, Great Role-Playing Games, which include the most worthy projects. The company promotes the projects it likes on its showcases New and Noteworthy and What We Are Playing. In addition, it publishes tops, which are used by most users who download applications directly from their mobile device, bypassing the red tape with iTunes.
However, if we talk about tops, then the situation is a little funny. On the one hand, only applications that have accumulated a large number of downloads get to their top. On the other hand, the bulk of users only download these applications. It turns out to be a vicious circle, which is especially difficult for a new application to break with the extremely high competition currently prevailing in the market.
However, there is another way – “state” regulation. And the introduction of Editor’s Choice and Free App of the Week, including in the mobile version of the App Store, just adds a little more of this regulation to the iOS platform.
