App Annie company together with IDC presented the next quarterly report on the situation on the market of mobile and portable games.
According to the submitted document, in the second quarter of 2013, games continue to dominate the mobile application market, both in terms of the number of downloads and revenue generated. In both stores, they account for about 40% of downloads. But here’s what’s curious: in Google Play, games account for more in percentage terms than in the App Store.
But the main surprise is something else. The revenue of Google Play alone in the second quarter turned out to be more than that of the market of games for portable devices. The income of the first from advertising was not taken into account here, only the players’ spending for content.
The overall situation changed slightly during the quarter. The share of the Asian market on the App Store has grown slightly, almost equaling the contribution of the American market. Google Play games continue to make the most money in Asia.
As for portable consoles, the share of the European region has unexpectedly increased here. The reason, it seems to us, is that this time Nintendo did not slow down with the release of high-profile titles in the Old World. Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Donkey Kong Country Returns were released simultaneously in the USA and Europe.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf was recently recognized as a game selling the Nintendo 3DS consoleThe cash top by platforms for April-June looks like this:
