Stephen Elop will be appointed Executive Vice President of Microsoft Devices and will be engaged in the further development of Windows Phone, Xbox console and Surface tablet series in early 2014.

In addition, Elop is one of the candidates for the role of the new executive director of the entire corporation. This was recently reported by Steve Ballmer in his interview with the Seattle Times.

There were rumors about the appointment yesterday, but we desperately did not want to believe them. It is not clear how it is possible to appoint a person to the post of head of the three most important Microsoft products, in fact, who led Nokia to collapse.

Recall that during Elop’s tenure as head of the Finnish giant, the company’s capitalization fell from $50 billion in March 2010 to $14 billion in August 2013, and Nokia’s share in the smartphone market from 2010 to 2012 decreased from 36.5% to 4.3%.

It is clear that this was a deliberate destruction of a great company, but will such an effective manager be able to manage the reverse process?

What do you think?
