According to official data, Microsoft has signed an agreement with Research in Motion (RIM) on the use of the exFAT file system in mobile devices.

With the acquisition of the rights to use exFAT, RIM software will now be able to get support for flash memory and “heavy” (more than 4 GB) files.

According to experts, RIM uses its patent rights to exFAT in smartphones based on the new BlackBerry 10 OS, which will enter the market early next year.

A little earlier, RIM signed an agreement on licensing Microsoft patents for Exchange ActiveSync synchronization technology.
