By 2016, Apple will still own half of the tablet market, IDC analysts predict.

In 4 years, the iPad will have a 49.7% market share (slightly less than it has now: 53.8%). The share of Android in the tablet market in 2016 will also decrease slightly from 42.7% to 39.7%.

The drop in the leaders’ indicators will largely occur due to the sharp expansion of Windows. If the platform now owns a share of 2.9%, then with an average annual growth of 70%, it will be able to occupy more than 10% of the market.

IDC did not identify any other players in the tablet market.

As for the overall results of this year, IDC analysts expect higher demand for tablets in the fourth quarter than previously expected. According to their calculations, a total of 122.3 million “tablets” will be sold in the world, which is 5.2 million more than the previous forecast. As the reason for the increase in demand, IDC analyst Tom Mainelli calls the release of two new products from Apple at once.

By the end of 2013, IDC predicts an indicator of 172.4 million tablets sold. On average, by 2016, the tablet market will grow by 23.3% per year.

Recall that yesterday analysts also published a similar forecast for 2016 on the smartphone market.
