Apple is once again the leader in smartphone sales in the US, but the company’s share in Europe continues to decline under the pressure of Android devices and, attention, Windows Phone.

According to data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech collected from August 6 to October 28, iOS is once again the most popular smartphone platform in the United States. It has 48.1% of the American market, while Android has 47.7%.

“The last time iOS was ahead of Android in the States was a year ago: the iPhone 4S appeared on the market,” says Dominic Sunnebo, one of the directors of the analytical company.

The situation on the European market is different. Most of the sales, consider, for the third quarter fell on Android. Smartphones with Google’s operating system accounted for 73.9% of sales in Germany and 81.7% in Spain.

Germany remains a very difficult market for Apple,” comments Sannebo. – “Over the past year alone, the share of its sales here has fallen by 5.1%. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy S3 accounts for almost a quarter of all sales over the past 12 weeks.”

In Italy, thanks to the high sales of Nokia Lumia 610 and Lumia 800, the share of Windows Phone has significantly jumped. Behind it – 11.7% of the market of this country.

This is the highest share of Windows Phone in all of Europe,” concludes Sannebo.

Microsoft fans should not delude themselves. Due to the lack of backward compatibility between Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7, the latter can already be spoken of as dead. But here’s the paradox: she took such a significant share. And next year, Windows Phone 8 will need to re-conquer the market as a completely independent OS.
