In order to strengthen its mobile division, Facebook bought the service Spool, a startup from San Francisco. Spool has been developing free Android and iOS applications that allow you to save your favorite materials in a desktop browser for future use on a tablet or smartphone.

The Spool website began its history in 2010 as an iPhone application and in early January 2012 has already attracted $1 million of investment.

Thus, Facebook wants to strengthen its position, first of all, in the consumption of mobile content. At the same time, as the CNet publication notes, this transaction is not the purchase of technology or the user base of the service, but the attraction of talented developers. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, all five Spool employees will move to Facebook.

As Facebook representatives explain, “the Spool team has deep knowledge in the field of mobile software development and a passion for making content easy to consume. We are excited to join this team and apply its vision to Facebook.”

Facebook Instagram and Karma, specializing in mobile devices, have become the next acquisition of the Spool team.
