According to Localytics, the most popular “tablets” on Google’s operating system are in the United States. American citizens account for 59% of their use.
We recently wrote that the iPhone surpasses Android smartphones in sales only in two markets: Japanese and native, American. Given the decline in the global share of the iPad in the tablet market (from 56.3% to 53.8% in 2012), which is due to the strengthening of the position of Android, it is quite possible to expect that the moment is not far off when the iPad will remain the leader in the tablet market in sales only in a small number of markets. And in the latter case, it is not a fact that one of them will be American.
According to Localytics, 59% of Android tablet usage is in the States. Of these, more than half (or 33% of the global share) are taken over by Amazon devices.
It is clear that in the case of Amazon’s aggressive expansion into global markets, the company may well take over the Android market. But at the moment, the American company is far from dominating: 89% of the devices work in the USA, the rest of them are mainly in the UK.
In the rest of the world, the most popular Android tablets are made under the Samsung Galaxy title – they account for 76% of usage. In second place in popularity is the Nexus 7 with 15%, and the Kindle Fire itself with 9%. By the way, Barnes & Noble owns about 10% of the American Android market.
These figures are based on data from applications integrated with Localytics marketing services. According to the latter, in this way it covers more than 500 million unique devices.
According to ABI Research, in the third quarter of 2012, the iPad line was responsible for 55% of tablet sales in the world, and Android controlled 44% of the market.
