The week of announcements continues. This time, Apple’s real competitor in the American tablet market, Amazon, told about his new devices. As expected, he demonstrated as many as two next-generation Kindle Fire devices: one large and one slightly smaller.
Both devices are called Kindle Fire HD (yes, as in the case of the latest iPad – no serial number), and both devices run on a heavily modified version of Android 4.0.
The diagonal of the screen of the older device is 8.9 inches, and the resolution is 1920 by 1080 pixels. This gives a density of dots per inch very close to the new iPad – 254 (Apple’s creation has 10 units more). We can say – and this was said at the presentation – that the screen of a large Kindle Fire HD is of the same class as Retina.
An eight-inch tablet runs on a dual-core processor with a frequency of 1.5 Ghz, however, its RAM volumes were not named. It will be delivered in four versions – 16 and 32 GB with Wi-Fi or in the same configuration, but with an LTE modem. The new Kindle Fire HD is equipped with two speakers, microUSB and microHDMI ports, as well as a webcam.
The cost of a large Kindle Fire HD in the US will start from $ 299. It will go on sale only on November 20.
The younger seven-inch model is visually very close to the “brother”. Only it has less of everything: a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, a dual–core processor “only” at 1.2 GHz, no LTE and no 32 GB. But the price does not bite at all – $ 199. The tablet will appear on American shelves on September 14.
Yes, on September 14, an updated version of last year’s Kindle Fire will be available to American buyers, the processor of which, according to Amazon employees, has become 40% faster, and the amount of RAM has doubled to 1 GB. The price of this novelty will be a record low – $ 159 per piece.
With such a blatantly dumping pricing policy, Apple will most likely also have to reduce the cost of its devices, according to some Western analysts. In their opinion, according to Brooke Crothers, one of the editors of CNET, the price of the iPad Mini may be $249 instead of the previously predicted $299.
Be that as it may, Amazon itself is already going beyond the redistribution of the United States. Most recently, she opened her app market in a number of European countries and, according to the latest, as yet unofficial, information, her new tablets are already on their way to the shelves of the UK.
