Epic Games has announced a deal to buy Hyprsense. The studio specializes in capturing facial animation in real time. Now this technology is planned to be integrated into Unreal Engine.

This became known from an official statement on the Hyprsense website. The amount of the deal was not disclosed, but the company will cooperate with 3Lateral and Cubic Motion, which are also part of Epic Games and specialize in facial animation.

In 2018, Hyprsense (then known as Binary VR) raised $4.5 million to develop its own technology for capturing facial animation in real time and creating virtual avatars.

“The Hyprsense team will allow us to move even further in the development of innovations in the field of digital characters and get closer to the goal that will help our authors fully embody their vision down to the smallest nuances,” said Kim Libreri, technical director of Epic Games.

Integration of this technology into Unreal Engine will simplify the process of developing and creating new models. Also, in theory, this will give Epic Games the opportunity to add virtual avatars to Fortnite for users.

You can see how this technology works in the Hyprmeet application, which was developed by Hyprsense.
