The author of Unreal Engine continues to acquire service companies specializing in the development of solutions for game developers. Yesterday it became known that the Epic Games “family” included 3Lateral and Agog Labs.

Boy & His Kite

3Lateral

First, Epic Games published a post about the acquisition of Serbian 3Lateral, which is engaged in the creation and animation of characters and animals.

Epic Games and 3Lateral have been cooperating for a long time. In particular, it was 3Lateral who was responsible for creating the Boy & His Kite video, one of the first to demonstrate the capabilities of Unreal Engine 4.

The terms of the takeover were not disclosed. However, the post noted that the deal is a major investment in the future work of the studio.

Despite the new owner, 3Lateral will continue to support its current partners.

Agog Labs

A little later, a post appeared about the purchase of Canadian Agog Labs.

The main product of a small studio of seven people is SkookumScript. This is an object-oriented programming language that was created for the development of video games. It works in conjunction with Unreal Engine 4 and C++ blueprints. SkookumScript was used in the development of Sleeping Dogs.

Under the terms of the deal, Agog Labs will stop developing SkookumScript and join the Unreal Engine development team.

Over the past 12 months, this is the third and fourth acquisition of technology companies by Epic Games, respectively. In January last year, the Fortnite developer acquired Cloudgine studio specializing in VR, and last fall — Finnish Easy Anti-Cheat, which creates solutions to combat cheaters.
