The series about the development and clash of civilizations, which debuted in 1991, has been purchased about 33 million times in a quarter of a century.
Of the millions mentioned, most of the sales – 8 million – came from Civilization V released in 2010 and additions to it. This means that over the past six months, the franchise has made 2 additional million. Recall that by July 2015, the circulation of the series was 31 million.
In just 25 years of the franchise’s existence, 66 versions of games have been created for all platforms.
Designers who participated in the development of games in the series: Sid Meier, Bruce Shelley, Brian Reynolds and Soren Johnson told about this as part of their speech at the DICE Summit conference.
Interesting fact: Meyer noted that when creating the original Civilization, he was inspired by SimCity and God simulators.
