Wargaming company.Net has announced the liquidation of the Seattle Wargaming division, located in the city of Redmond near Seattle. The entire staff of the studio, where about 150 people worked, fell under the reduction.

As a representative of Wargaming Seattle told Gamasutra, the news of the closure took everyone by surprise. On the morning of May 23, studio employees were invited to a general meeting, where the head of Wargaming.net Victor Kislyi (Victor Kisliy) told them the unpleasant news.

Wargaming Seattle was previously known as Gas Powered Games. It was founded in 1998 by Chris Taylor, the creator of the famous Total Annihilation strategy.

Under his leadership, the studio created the Dungeon Siege role—playing action franchise and the spiritual heiress of Total Annihilation – the Supreme Commander strategic series, as well as several other games.

In 2013, Wargaming.Net bought Gas Powered Games and renamed the studio Wargaming Seattle. Chris Taylor left the company in 2016. He explained his departure by fatigue and a desire to work on small independent projects.
